Paper
mills consume many organic and inorganic additives to impart a variety
of characteristics to the final product. These additives may promote
the development of bacteria that cause spoilage, resulting in a waste
of resources, loss of production, and potential explosion from gas
generation. In addition, slime is produced by the bacteria, causing
discolouration and fouling that can force equipment to shut down for
several hours at an enormous cost to the producer. Slime formed in
the system can also affect the quality and cost of the finished paper
product.
With
the proper use and addition of biocide however, the number of boil-outs
or cleanings is reduced, creating less down time and optimizing
production and revenue.
